1 January 2012, 7:02 NEW PLAYERS GUIDE (READ ME FIRST)
Welcome to Superpower: Classic, an online nationsim. A nationsim is short for nation simulator, which is a game that makes you, the player, the leader of a real-world nation. In Superpower, the leaders of nations interact online in a dynamic forum and shape the world through actions passed through the administrators. If you have never before played a nationsim, it is recommended that you read this guide.
--The Superpower Team Joining the Game Code of Conduct Reporting Problems Legal and Disclaimer Joining the Game To join the game, you must first register a user account. Your user account is the login name and password you will use to view and interact with the Superpower website. To register, click the "Register" link near the top of the screen and follow the instructions. You will be required to validate your email address by visiting your email account and reading the email sent to you by this site, and then your account will be ready for use. Log in by clicking "Log In" and entering your user name and password. Due to the increasing number of attacks from spambots we maintain an extensive list of banned IP's and emails. If you have an email address ending in .ru, .ws or other popular spambot hosts you will not be able to register a user account, you should instead create another email account for use with this site. A up-to-date list is maintained in the Game News forum. See Basics: Character Creation
To begin playing the game, you must then apply for a nation. Your nation application must be in a particular format -- five choices, including descriptions why you want these Nations and what you planning with them, in descending order of preference. We strongly suggest to add a small biography of your past expierence with NationSims, if you are new to SPC. One of your five choices may also be a non-governmental organization (NGO) such as an arms dealer, mercenary group, or terrorist organization. Not the NGO's listed in the Organisations section of the board. Only a very limited number of NGOs are allowed to be active at one time (usually one or two), so it is suggested only advanced players play NGOs. Do not apply for nations that are already being played. You can see that a nation is currently being played if on the nation list it has a leader listed next to it. Or, you can click the drop-down list next to "Showing nations" and choose "Without leaders" to diplays only nations that are free. Please do not apply for say 4 of the 5 permanent members of the UNSC, as sending in a list full of high-profile nations will mostly likely mean that you do not get a nation at all. Once you've made your choice please send your application to Ivanhoe (however please note that avatars are sometimes on vacation, so it is wise to read the Game News forum for announcements before sending in your application, in case you have to send your application to another account). Until you have sent in your nation application you will not be able to post in most forums. During this time (and afterward), it would be wise to fully aquaint yourself with the rule set of Superpower. The rule set can be found in the Help section. You may also want a mentor, someone to help you get aquianted with the game. If you want a mentor, please post so in the Mentoring topic. A player will respond to your post if he is willing to mentor you. Your national information, along with your nation's private information (treasury, etc.) are accessible in the Nation Profile, which can be reached by clicking on a nation's name in the Nation List. Code of Conduct These are guidelines for conduct on the Superpower website. Violations will result in disciplinary action ranging from poster warnings to permanent banning. 1. Think before you post. These boards have a certain standard on inappropriate material. Submitted content deemed to be overly profane, violent, graphic, pornographic, or prejiducial is not allowed. Violation of this rule will usually result in a poster warning and deletion of the content in question. The precise standards vary between in-character and out-of-character forums, and we are reasonably liberal in this matter, but please use your common sense. Let it be made clear that you do not have a right to free speech on these boards. Under United States law, free speech requires a government actor and is not binding on the private sector, i.e. the management of this site. We reserve the legal right to restrict access to this site to people who post material contrary to the spirit of these guidelines. 2. Harassment will not be tolerated. This website promotes a friendly environment (whenever possible), and all debate should be constructive. Insults and character attacks (not blatant harassment) are sometimes overlooked in out-of-character forums, but in in-character forums, harassment of any kind not directly within reasonable context of roleplaying will result in disciplinary action. In all forums, please recognize the difference between casual, victimless profanity and direct verbal harassment. If you feel you are being harassed on this website, please contact an avatar with your grievance. Punishment will vary depending on seriousness, but will probably involve suspension. If said harassment continues outside this website into other areas of communication or real life, we suggest seeking legal counsel. We will rarely deal out punishment for actions taken by our players outside of this website unless it relates to their conduct here. 3. Stay in character. In in-character forums, we have a strict policy on out-of-character comments. To be perfectly clear, "in-character" content is text/comments that are stated from the perspective of your character, the leader of a nation or organization, with no information or phrasing within that would contradict that role. "Out-of-character" content is text/comments that are stated from your own perspective, as a person. In an in-character forum (that is, any forum other than the Others Board category and the Game News forum), you may not make out-of-character (OOC) comments. For instance, this would be unacceptable in an in-character (IC) forum. I'm gonna attack India soon, once the avatars post it in the WBC. In that statement, the player used OOC knowledge and terminology, so it is considered an OOC statement. On many other websites, OOC is allowed as long as it is properly denoted. On Superpower, however, that is also unacceptable. Pakistan agrees with the delegate from Switzerland.
OOC: Gotta go, have soccer practice. The above is not allowed. There is only one way in which you are allowed to post OOC comments on Superpower. If you need to quote a source or say something very important that cannot be said in an IC fashion, then you may make one OOC statement per post using the following format. Pakistan agrees with the delegate from Switzerland.
[ooc]This thread should be closed tomorrow with the signing of the Treaty of Calcutta, more information at http://www.domain.com/dir/page.html.[/ooc] As you can see, the entire OOC statement is enclosed in the [ooc] and [/ooc] tags. This is acceptable, but only one such statement is allowed per post. Also, that OOC statement may not be the entire content of the post. Violation of this rule will usually result in poster warnings. 4. Maintain reasonable activity. Depending on the importance of your nation, we expect varying levels of activity from our players. If you are a Tier I nation, we will generally expect you to visit the forums at least every other day (not without exception, of course) and notify us of any extended vacations. For other nations, we expect a minimum activity level of 3-4 visits/posts per week. Excessive activity, while uncommon, is not wanted. Excessive activity loads the avatars with many actions, slowing the time in which they can process actions from other players. As a general rule, limit yourself to one action per Category per day, or less. For you obsessive nation-builders out there, you know who you are, the LBC is a perfect place to release your pent-up politicizing. See Basics: LBC
5. Multiple accounts are not allowed. You may only hold one nation at a time. Never start multiple accounts on this board in order to control more than one nation and/or organization. This unbalances the game dramatically by placing power over more than one nation in the hands of a single person. The board administrators are able to track user activity to detect this, even if different IP adrresses or Proxys are used. Violation of the rule against multiple accounts will range between warning and banning, depending on prior offences. All multi-accounts will be banned or deleted upon detection! [ Back to Top ]
Reporting Problems There are three types of problems on these boards that we accept as legitimate. Grievances/complaints, statistical errors, and technical errors. Following is an explanation of the three. 1. Complaints: a complaint is a legitimate (the definition of legitimate is decided on a case-to-case basis by the avatars) grievance against the management or against a player(s). Legitimate reasons include harrassment, apathy, or other unfair treatment. Your complaint will be taken as seriously as it merits. Do not complain on the same topic more than once. Complaints should be addressed to the avatar they concern. 2. Statistical errors: a statistical error is a grevious (obvious and large) in the information of a nation, organization, military unit, treaty, technology, or any other intrinsic part of the game. Keep several things in mind before reporting such an error. For one, many nations on the nationlist do not have completed statistics. If a nation is not being played, and especially if it is on Tier III, then do not expect its statistics to be complete. Second, the treaty list is not complete and is only a very rough listing of important, oft-referenced treaties. The same thing applies to the military and technology lists. Statistical errors should be addressed to Brian or Itake. 3. Technical errors: these are detrimental errors to the forum software, or access errors such as being unable to post in a particular forum. A technical error is easily identified, because it completely prevents you from using a feature. Before reporting a technical error, be sure to read all available documentation on the topic to be sure that you are operating the system correctly. Technical errors should be addressed to Itake.
